Damian Green’s odd hesitation pattern

Most politicians are quite adept at side-stepping difficult questions so it was a surprise to hear Conservative MP Damian Green get somewhat tongue-tied when asked to reveal something about Teresa May on the BBC Radio 4 PM programme. 

Here is the transcript of the hesitation although the short piece really does have to be heard to be appreciated. Eddie Mair (EM) couldn’t help a little snigger.

EM: … we’re all listening
DG: well er hhh ith er I think 
    the b- er th- if if if er am-
    obviously if there were (.) erm 
    damaging [anecdotes
EM:          [hhhhh
DG: I wouldn’t be telling them
